Silly Dog Videos

I was recently interviewed by Burt Case for a segment on WLBT’s 3 on Your Side. The branch director of the YMCA Downtown called him about all of the animals that are dumped near her rural Rankin County home. Trust me, if I had known I was going to be filmed for TV, I would have worn make-up and decent clothes.  They came to get me during yoga class, so as an added bonus, I was sweaty!  I looked terrible…but I was on point with my message.

Many thanks to Kandy who found him, cleaned him up, removed his ticks and wormed him.  She was calling him Oscar but he did not respond to that name, so we dubbed him Burt, which has morphed into Bertie.  He is learning his name, which is good, because it helps me correct him when he tries to pee or mark his territory…which is a problem since he is still in tact!  The vet said Bertie has a swollen lymph node, probably from the tick bites, and is on medication for the next two weeks.  Because of that, the vet will not be able to neuter him right away.  He is clearly a dachshund mix, his legs are too long and his face is a little too sharp and short….so he would not be appropriate for a breeding program…so I am not sure why he was not fixed.

Anyway, today we got him his first real tag, next will come the microchip! He is officially one of us.  Scary, no?

What better to post than videos of dogs?

Everything is fine here

Thanks to those of you who have contacted me about the tornadoes that hit Mississippi.  They hit about 45 minutes north of my home, but I was not in town.  Please feel free to donate to the Red Cross or other relief effort, if you are so moved. The people in Yazoo County can really use the help.  Thankfully, my friends in Yazoo City are safe and sound.

I just got back from another visit with family in Atlanta.  I loved being able to see everyone and  I had a great visit.  After more than a week of daily outings, I finally figured out what made my mother happy: pizza from Fellini’s and butter pecan ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.  I am so glad that I am below my goal weight and did not have to worry about how we ate, especially since my sister-in-law had two cakes, plus she made biscotti and brownies.  That said, I am glad that I do not have to weigh-in tomorrow night!

Last week, I also finalized my registration for EGA National Seminar in San Francisco.  Oh, and I helped my sister pick out her classes too!

Sorry I never seem to post on my blog any longer.  I blame FaceBook!

Demo Tomorrow

I will be at the Craft Center on Rice Road tomorrow demonstrating needle felting, spinning and embroidery. I am scheduled to be there from ten until four.  Come by and see me if you get the chance.

Stitching Buddies

So, by now, you have probably surmised that I am stitching a lot lately.  For my holiday, I stitched all morning, then my husband took me to lunch at Aladdin Mediterranean Grill.  Next, I ran some errands with Trish,  before I got back to stitching.

As I looked down, I thought my little stitch companions by my side were so cute that I dug my cell phone out of my pocket to take a picture.  If I had gone for my real camera,I am sure they would have shifted or moved.  Please note that neither Rudy (left) nor Roscoe (right) has been spared the indignity of random thread snippets.

In other news, there are now two belly dance classes at La Salsa!  The Saturday class has moved to 5 PM and they added a Monday class at 7 PM.

Benefits of exercise

Let me preface this by saying that I have never had a problem with high blood pressure, although my mother does.  I stopped  by Kroger after the gym and decided to use their BP machine.  I was just curious to see how it would read after two hours of exercise (belly dancing and the elliptical). I need to check it more often to see if it fluctuates.  It has gone up  some as I have aged, but never as high as it was when I took medication for depression.

Feeling Better

I am feeling better.  Sorry for the pity party.  I am moving on and that feels good.  I did go out and look at studio space today…decisions, decisions.

Restless and Questioning

I enjoyed the Tamalyn Dallal workshop and got a lot of great ideas.  I want to teach Bellydance Fitness classes.  I have wanted that for a while, but between being Trish’s assistant at La Salsa and the workshop, I am convinced that I need to find a way to really pursue this.  I felt good about myself on Sunday and had a lot of ideas…even if I had no way of knowing where they would take me.

Then I had a really bad day yesterday.  I can not explain it, the day started out just fine, but something happened during yoga to make me feel just awful about myself, my practice, my physical body, my spiritual journey…the whole shooting match.  Then I went to the gym to work out on the elliptical and dance a little.  There was a trainer with someone in the program room, so I had to wait until afterward to get in there.  After over 90 minutes on the elliptical, my balance was off and I was not at my best.  By time I made my way home, I was miserable and down on myself.

I am feeling a little out of sorts. It happens.  I think I am bring tripped up by pride and ego, but I am not exactly sure how to let that go. Ironically, I have been listening to the song Pride by Syntax…it suits my mood lately and I had been looking for it since I heard it in the soundtrack for an episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent this season.

I guess I am just trying to figure things out and it is harder than I imagined it would be.

Tamalyn Dallal is in Jackson Y’all!

Tamalyn Dallal taught our Thursday night belly dance class. I was excited, because it was a small group and we were at Butterfly Yoga, which is sort of home turf for me.  After all, I am there five to six days a week for yoga and dance classes, so it feels very comfortable.  I was thrilled beyond words when Tamalyn complimented my hip slides and undulations.

Tomorrow, I will be attending the workshop in Clinton, it is part of her Back Roads America Tour.  I plan to drive over right after class at La Salsa.  I am thrilled that I will also be attending the Business of Bellydance and Adding Drama to Your Dance session on Sunday too.

Finally joined the YMCA

I finally signed up for membership at the Northeast Jackson YMCA. I have gone in to ride the stationary bike and meet with the trainer, but I have not made it any classes.  I am still very attached to Butterfly Yoga and love their noon classes.   But now I have access to this well equiped little gym and to the Y’s indoor pools!

I Love my Saturn Wagon

Today my little car finally rolled over 80,000 miles!  Sadly, I was not at the wheel to watch the odometer turn, it was a mechanic.  My brake light was coming on intermittently, so I popped by my favorite place, The Tire Depot on Lakeland.  It could have been something as minor as low brake fluid, but that was not my luck.  I ended up having to get all new brake pads and rotors.

Oh well, it was cheaper than a car payment!  I have never had a vehicle this long and I am actually sort of attached to it.  It has many merits, the most important of which is that I have owned it free and clear for a long time.  Plus, I am used to it and when little things happen, like smacking my mirror on a post, it is not a crisis moment.

I look forward to driving it down to New Orleans next weekend for the Journey through Egypt belly dance workshop.
