Rooted in Mississippi

The adventures of one woman with many interests and a few loose screws…

Everything is fine here

Thanks to those of you who have contacted me about the tornadoes that hit Mississippi.  They hit about 45 minutes north of my home, but I was not in town.  Please feel free to donate to the Red Cross or other relief effort, if you are so moved. The people in Yazoo County can really use the help.  Thankfully, my friends in Yazoo City are safe and sound.

I just got back from another visit with family in Atlanta.  I loved being able to see everyone and  I had a great visit.  After more than a week of daily outings, I finally figured out what made my mother happy: pizza from Fellini’s and butter pecan ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.  I am so glad that I am below my goal weight and did not have to worry about how we ate, especially since my sister-in-law had two cakes, plus she made biscotti and brownies.  That said, I am glad that I do not have to weigh-in tomorrow night!

Last week, I also finalized my registration for EGA National Seminar in San Francisco.  Oh, and I helped my sister pick out her classes too!

Sorry I never seem to post on my blog any longer.  I blame FaceBook!

Long time no see

OK, so my ex-husband was the first to mention how long it had been since I updated my blog…but he was not the only one.  My blog has become a victim of FaceBook.

I thought I would share a few dog photos here too.

The first is Princess, being a snarly pants on command and being a sweetie.  Plus, a photo of Rudy before the vet school shaved his belly.

Poor Neglected Blog

I know, I have been completely out of touch here. I could blame cake classes, FaceBook, or being under the weather, but the truth is, I started to feel like I was talking to myself. Of course, there were worse things than talking to yourself.

Next weekend I have the big finale in two cake classes, so I will be spending most of my time working on royal icing and fondant flowers. But, last week, I uncovered a few unfinished needlework projects that I want to finish. Maybe I can get back to them in April, since I am taking a break from cake classes.

So you might be wondering, why am I back writing an entry in my blog today? Probably because I am procrastinating on getting my tax stuff together for the accountant. Maybe I am a little depressed that my attempt at being a small businesswoman was a miserable failure. I am even procrastinating on filling out the paperwork to be a vendor at the next Share-A-Stitch. The irony is, I am not ordinarily a procrastinator.

Oh, well, life has a way of moving on and ironing out these things.

Longtime No Post

OK, so I can not explain exactly why I have not been blogging, but my limited time online has something to do with it.  My computer is online most of the day, but I am only wafting in and out, sometimes not touching the keyboard for long stretches, except to log my food.  That also means that I am way behind in reading other people’s blogs, so forgive me if I have missed anything important.

Since I am logging food, you probably can figure out that I am still doing Weight Watchers.  The good news is that I am still losing, in fact, I am down 39.5 pounds as of yesterday.  I am only 22 pounds from goal; I can actually visualize myself making goal and becoming a lifetime member some day. Just writing that sentence feels amazing.

I was really hoping to get to that big 40 last night, but considering that it was Thanksgiving week, I am lucky to have come so close.  Last night was the first meeting I have been to where no one was awarded a five pound star, although it was well attended.  Even though they do not give me a little charm for my key-chain until 50 and 60 will mark my goal, I am still really psyched about 40, because it is a big milestone along my path. That said, I am sure I will be even more excited about 50 and 60.  One can only imagine the number of exclamation points in that post!

What Tarot Card are You?

Lisa did this quiz over on her blog, so I decided to play along.

You are The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents,
beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home
decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

If you want more extravagance, you’ve got to get a little purple in your life!

For extra punch: Combine purple with green or orange

The downside of purple: It can evoke sad feelings

Pretty Impressive Stuff @ ARTichoke

I thought I would share photos from Pretty Impressive Stuff @ ARTichoke! I am only occupying part of the space in the front room, but it is nice to have a place to sell my wares and teach people how to spin. I am still moving in to the space, but I hope to be fully operational in a few weeks. I have been making inquiries to several distributors and want to see spinning equipment, in addition to fibers and fabric.

Also, Vee nominated me for the E is for Excellent Award. Wasn’t that nice?

bloggy things

My friend, Madame Purl, had this on her blog and I got the idea to do it too!  I am pretty sure I have never done this one before, a quick search of Rooted in Mississippi for knitting quizzes only showed the knitting needle one.  So if I am repeating myself, please forgive me.

What Kind of Knitter Are You?

You appear to be a Knitting Goddess. You are constantly giving and are unconcerned with reward, you simply want others to love knitting as much as you do. If someone wants to knit miles of novelty yarns, you are there for them. If someone wants to learn short row shaping, you can help. There are no taboos in knitting, only opportunities to grow. Everyone should have friend like you around if they want to learn to knit, and there’s a good chance that your passion has rubbed off on a few others.http://marniemaclean.com

You Make My Day Award

Marty tagged me for the Make My Day Award, and now I need to pass it along to ten people!

Here are the rules:

“Give the award to up to 10 people whose blogs bring you happiness and inspiration and make you feel so happy about blogland! Beware! You may get the award several times!”

Remember that people can be tagged more than once! I would like to pass it along to Lisa, Cynthia, Rhonda, Jenclair, Madam Purl, Zippi Knits, Charlotte, Pug Knits, Cindy, and back to Marty, who always times the time to comment and is an all around sweet person!

Thanks for the nice comments about Omar, he was a very good cat. Ben found the photo I loved most, then I was able to track it down on my website, so I thought I would include it here. He was always interested in anything mommy did in the yard or greenhouse.  He was a good kitty and I already miss his mewling at the door next to me.
