Just checking in

I am still here and doing fine, but I have been sort of quiet! Since for some reason my husband just had to take photos of me today, I thought I would insert one here.  Afterward, I took pictures of Princess’ progress on her hole.  Then, I decided I would share both photos!

The joys of car ownership

Last night, the car started to feel a little funny driving home from belly dancing at Trish’s.  She lives just a few blocks away, so I did not stop until I got home.  I realized the front passenger side tire was flat and asked my husband to pump it up in the morning.  Dutiful husband that he is, he went out there and took care of it before work.  He came back in to tell me it was audibly leaking air and would not hold.  Instead of waiting around for AAA, I jumped up, tossed on some clothes, ran a brush through my hair and drove to the Tire Depot on Lakeland Drive.  Even though that was also a very short trip, the tire was completely flat by time I got there.

It was in the sidewall and was not repairable, so I decided the best route was to get two new tires for the front.  I admit, it was a tough decision, since it felt like my tires were new.  I was shocked when he looked it up and told me I got the whole set in May 2005. I really thought it was more recent than that, but I knew it was before they took over Scotty’s and that I had at least two flats and patches since getting that set of tires. With luck the new tires are replacing ones that were patched, but who knows, since I get them rotated regularly.  There real surprise was that three years and four months only translated into 20,000 miles, even with all of the travel I have done!!

The Tire Depot people thought I had a good attitude about it all, but I was just grateful it happened now and not while I was on the road.  As much as I liked Scotty’s, I think I like the Tire Depot people even more.  I could not ask for better customer service and being there is always as pleasant as they can make it. The staff is friendly and helpful.  They also have always made sure to do whatever I needed, even when it meant they had to stay late, because I was heading out on a road trip in the morning.  Plus, they always give me options, so I never feel like I am forced into buying or repairing something.  I guess if you have to get something done to your car, it helps to have a place close by that you like and trust.

What Tarot Card are You?

Lisa did this quiz over on her blog, so I decided to play along.

You are The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents,
beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home
decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

I feel like dancin’ yeah…

Seems like I belly dance so much more than I did just a year ago!  It is not just the workshops and classes either.  My friend Trish and I have been dancing together about three times a week.  I am sure that is part of what has helped me be successful with Weight Watchers.  I am so happy to finally have hobbies, specifically yoga and belly dance, that are active and good for my health!  I definitely needed a little counter balance for all of the sedentary things I do.

Busy, busy, busy

I have been so busy lately, which is kind of strange considering I no longer have a full time job.  Part of it is that I devote a lot of time to my health and fitness. I log a lot of hours between yoga and belly dance, which translates into activity points for Weight Watchers.  The good news is, all of that activity is finally paying dividends. I am down a total of twenty two and a half pounds since July 1!

The rumors of our demise have been greatly exagerated

Despite what many people seem to think, Mississippi NeedleArts is alive and well!  We are still the only chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America in the state. Although we are small, we meet monthly and have had a wide variety of educational programs over the last year and a half.  This Saturday, we will begin working on a Brazilian Dimensional Embroidery (BDE) project using the Bypass Heart, a free pattern from my web site.

Since my sample was stitched in silk buttonhole twist and not rayon threads, it feels like cheating to call it BDE.  I really need to sit down and stitch another sample in EdMar, but I seem to find other things to do, like yoga, belly dance, etc.  I also took road trip to Canton to see Lisanne and wander around the square with my friend Anne, after we had lunch at Petra Cafe.

I suppose I will have my chance to stitch tomorrow, while I am sitting around the house waiting for the plumbers to show up and reinstall the big water filter.  Maybe I can get inspired to collect my materials and start building a little nest on the sofa. I think I have old episodes of Project Runway and House still on TiVo to keep me company.

Who knew vegetarian pizza could be a bad thing?

I was terrified that my weight loss would stall while I was on the road.  To be honest, with the exception of one day, I was a good girl.  I watched what I ate and I walked a lot, but Saturday was a different story.  We stopped at Cracker Barrel and I got Mama’s French Toast Breakfast instead of something reasonable.  Then to compound that mistake, I bought some candy at a gas station on the way home.  At least I did not eat it all, but still, what was I thinking?

The final blow came when I shared a vegetarian pizza with my husband.  I was horrified to learn that it had five points per slice.  Regrettably, I ate four of them, which was basically my whole points allowance for a single day!!!! Oh, well, at least I got back on the wagon and the end result was OK.  I weighed in two pounds lighter at Weight Watchers, which makes a grand total of twenty-one pounds lost since July 1!

Opening Banquet

I was seated at a special table by the education department, because I won the Gold Thread Award for the Tennessee Valley Region.  I missed my friends, but I was seated with some nice folks.  The only draw back was that even though my seat was pulled as close as possible to the table, everyone kept bumping me as they walked past.  It is hard to eat when your chest is resting on the table, but I did it.  Anyway, I digress. Thanks again to my wonderful friends in CyberStitchers who nominated me for the Gold Thread Award…they are the best.

I loved it when my friends Cindy, Joan and Bette showed up in their Musketeers outfits! Check out the photo on Cindy’s blog.

Holy cow, what a week

I just got back from the EGA National Seminar in Louisville, Kentucky.  I am exhausted from my adventures, but I promise to post something soon.  I did follow through with my threat to wear a gypsy belly dance costume to the closing banquet and it was a scream.  Yes, I showed my muffin top to everyone!  However, I did have fun and that was the point.
